ICJ Canada Annual Meeting 2009

Because the 2009 Canadian Bar Association meeting will be held in Dublin, Ireland, ICJ Canada has opted to deviate this year from its usual practice of holding its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the CBA Legal Conference. After weighing a number of options, the Executive has settled on accepting the cordial invitation of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice to have our Annual Meeting in the context of the CIAJ Annual Conference, which will be held at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa in October. The ICJ Canada meeting will take place between 11:45 and 1:30 on Thursday, October 1.

Moving the Annual Meeting from August to October has resulted in some minor changes to the Tarnopolsky process. First, the deadline for nominations has been extended from April 30 to May 31. Details are available on the Tarnoplosky ad included with the Newsletter. As well, the Award will be presented at our Annual Meeting, rather than at the meeting of the Canadian Judges’ Forum, which will take place in Dublin. The 2009 recipient will give the Tarnopolsky address at the Annual Meeting, as usual.

The Executive hopes that Ottawa’s proximity to Montreal and Toronto and the large number of Ottawa members, as well as judges and lawyers in town for the CIAJ Conference, will result in a well-attended meeting. ICJ Canada is very grateful for the warm invitation extended by the CIAJ, as well as for a similarly warm invitation to hold the ICJ meeting in conjunction with the Annual Conference of the Canadian Superior Court Judges Association in Prince Edward Island in August.
